MANA

MANAHATA

MANA MANAHATA 2022 is a Pacific Island heritage program that celebrates ancestry and seeks to unify the Pacific Island and native and indigenous communities in New York City and internationally.  The program will take place on October 13-14, 2024, in conjunction with the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration, which is a 24 hour lineup of native artists, dancers, speakers, activists, cultural bearers, vendors, and craftsman.

The festivities include: interactive and immersive cultural activities, island craft workshops, dance lessons, lei making tutorials, pareu (sarong) printing and tying, drumming lecture demonstrations, and fashion designers, and artisans.  Please join us for this rare event in sharing our heritage and play a role in growing and strengthening the New York City Pacific Islander community.

Part of the mission of Te Ao Mana is to harmoniously grow and nurture the Pacific Island community in New York City and abroad and deepen our relations and alliances with the city’s diverse cultural community.  We want our voice to be heard and our stories to be shared.  We will continue to diligently create space for artists and cultural practitioners of all genres to flourish.

Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration NYC

Many local Indigenous tribes and local Indigenous organizations have worked together over the last 10 years to strongly encourage New York City to recognize Indigenous Peoples Day, and offer a FREE annual event that celebrates the resilience of first nations peoples. There will be 24 hours of native culture, music, song, dance, food, activism, ceremony and prayer on Randall’s Island, Lenape Hoking (New York City). On Monday morning we start the day with a sunrise ceremony, immediately followed by a water ceremony along the East River, before the remainder of the festivities begin.

We ask that you consider supporting us as we make this event safe and accessible to the Indigenous and native people everywhere. For more information and year round initiatives visit: www.ipdnyc.org.
