Lili’u Opera Sneak Peak

Honolulu, Home of Queen Lili’uokalani

Working on the Lili’u Opera has been one of the most challenging yet fulfilling projects Anthony has had the opportunity to work on. A true melding collaboration of separate projects, funded in part by a SHIFT grant. The opera is a beautiful work brought together by Kanaka artists. The libretto is written by Leilehua Lanzilotti, sourcing texts directly from the diaries of Queen Lili’uokalani. The opera is choreographed by Anthony Aiu and will be preceded by a series of cultural events and workshops curated by Te Ao Mana. Other artists include: Kahanuola Solatorio who offered a beautiful Olelo Hawaii translation of the libretto, Manaola’s elaborate costume designs, and Roomful of Teeth, a Grammy winning ensemble of versatile vocalists who offer their voices.
