Auē Away - Hawai’i Triennial 2022

Concept/Artist: Dan Taulapapa McMullin

Music Composition: TJ Keanu

Dancers: Anthony Aiu, Kaina Quenga

Venue: Honolulu Museum of Art

This was a special collaboration, over two years in the process. It was an eye-opening experience delving into the word of contemporary art at home. It was such a surreal experience to dance in a unique way, different from what we normally do, and to express and embody our native stories in an abstract, yet profound way. The music was perfectly haunting, introspective, yearning. The sculptural bodysuits were transformative. On top it all, the realization of the politics and grave issues that still plague our aina and people were ever present. This caused a deep, thought provoking inner shift.
