Indigenous Peoples Day 2023

Something we look forward to each year

One our favorite events of the year. Indigenous peoples Day celebrates indigenous and native peoples from the local area of Lenape Hoking and indigenous relatives from around the world. Our indigenous family is alive and well and have so much to offer the world. Additionally, we are striving to have the holiday recognized by the city of New York.

Showcasing Indigenous Artistry

Indigenous artists are invited from all over the world and region to gather together and share traditional dancers, singers, songwriters, poets, activists, performances, artisans, and drummers, etc. in a three day event (this year). A highlight includes a sunrise ceremony and a tobacco ceremony on the Monday of the holiday weekend.

Grassroots

Te Ao Mana has been involved with IPDNYC since the beginning and are involved with the organizing of the event each year. The organizers all appreciate the grassroots feel and how we are able to connect with each other and the community outdoors surrounded by nature.

Our booth/tent, along with several others, actually fell victim to the rain storm and powerful winds, and were so comforted that many of our brothers and sisters rushed over to help secure it and help us recover.
